The Good Food Cardiff Zone will be celebrating Cardiff being named one of the most sustainable food cities in the UK. Join in with activities for all the family to learn about food which is good for people and the planet. The tent will include inspiring workshops, demos, talks and activities celebrating local food.

Saturday

10.30-11am: Flax Growing at St Fagans

Cat will tell the story of the amazing Flax plant, which gives us flax seeds, linen cloth, linoleum, lino prints and linseed oil.

11am-11.45am: Sourdough Bread Demo

Join David Le Masurier from Pettigrew Bakeries for a sourdough bread demo, showing just how just flour, water and salt can come together to make something delicious.  

12pm-12.30pm: Food and Friendship from the Garden

Come and meet the Railway Gardens growing group and find out how a group of community members have created a beautiful and abundant shared growing space as well as cultivating meaningful and lasting friendships. Ask questions and try tasters made from their garden produce.

12.45pm-1.45pm: Welsh Veg in Schools 

From pies, pasta and pizza to curries, cakes and chutneys – the humble courgette is surprisingly versatile and is the first vegetable to be introduced as the part of the Welsh Veg in Schools project. Join food author and broadcaster Nerys Howell as she demonstrates how to make family friendly recipes with courgettes.  

2pm - 3pm: Nature’s Colours

Cat will show botanical paint made using food waste and autumn gatherings. Join in to make a collective autumn artwork celebrating food and nature

3pm-4pm: Fun with Food

Can you identify a radish with your eyes closed? Want to learn which lunch boxes have the smallest carbon footprint? Join Jessie Kidd, Education Officer at Cae Tan CSA, for a fun-filled, hands-on session of family-friendly food activities!

4.15pm-5.15pm: Eat Well Spend Wisely

Join Family Action for a practical workshop - get some tips for eating healthily on a budget, and take part in some family friendly games and activities themed around food.

Discover the flavours and appearances of salad varieties that flourish in Wales. This engaging session includes a tasting of various leaves. Participate in discussions about their unique tastes, get practical tips and ask questions on growing these salads at home.

Join the Bottega Project for a lively hour of discussion, demonstrations and some hand-on fun exploring practical designs and ideas for creating interesting, productive spaces to grow fruit and veg.
