Tour: Vegetable Gardens Through the Ages
13 September
12:00-13:00
Join the Museum's Gardening Team for a guided tour exploring how vegetable growing has evolved in Wales across the historic landscape of St Fagans.
Discover traditional techniques such as raised beds and seed broadcasting in Hendre'r-Ywydd-Uchaf, alongside archaeological evidence and agricultural surveys in Nantwallter. Learn about heritage seeds and historic crop varieties, including potatoes grown at Rhyd-y-car, and uncover stories from the Dig for Victory campaign in the Prefab garden. Along the way, see historic tools like seed drills, and even explore the curious absence of potatoes in Abernodwydd Farmhouse garden.
Meet at the Good Food Cardiff Zone tent for a prompt 12pm start. The tour involves walking on mixed terrain and may not be suitable for all access needs. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This activity is weather dependent.
