Course: Natural Dyeing with Garden Plants

Welcome to the wonderful world of natural dye colour.  

Plants have been used for thousands of years to dye fibres an amazing range of colours from soft to rich.  Some were collected in the wild and others cultivated.  This workshop introduces the principles of natural dyeing and you will make botanical dyes from plants and extracts to dye samples on wool, and learn how to modify colours.  There will be notes on recipes to take home.  All fibres will be prepared in advance (premordanted).

This fun, relaxed day is suitable for complete beginners. All equipment and materials and protective clothing will be supplied - but you should wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a drip or two of dye on. 

Gloves (non-latex), aprons, and goggles will be provided. The workshop features wool, so please bear this in mind if you are allergic to wool/lanolin.

 You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit our on-site catering facilities.

This workshop may have possible dust from dried plant material. Disposable dust masks will be provided.  Please let the tutor know on the day if you have respiratory sensitivity and need to stand out of the work area.
