Louisa Elizabeth (d. 1853) the daughter of John Rolls of the Hendre, Monmouthshire, married John Francis Vaughan of Courtfield, Herefordshire, a member of an old Welsh Catholic Family. Their children included Cardinal Vaughan, Archbishop of Westminster, four priests and four nuns. Etty is best known for elaborate mythological scenes much indebted to Venetian Renaissance art. Here the fashionable dress and hair style of the 1830s is given the glamour and rich colour of Titian.

What a very stunning portrait: magnificent woman, but magnificent, stormy, romantic colouring.
