Event:Summer of fun: Pit Girl Powerhouse

Big Pit National Coal Museum
Finished

Come join us at Big Pit National Coal Museum for our Pit Girl Powerhouse walk-in workshop, celebrating feminism in the coal mines! From 11am-3pm on Saturday the 27 August, and anybody can call in on the day.

We will explore the hidden history of female miners within the mines. What was their role? How did they dress? We are inviting young people aged 10-15 to learn and share the history of this powerhouse of pit girls. This live creative session at Big Pit will include a tour of the museum’s current Tip Girls exhibition, and a creative session exploring the history of pit girls through creating their own decorative pit girl uniforms. All materials and instruction with be provided.

The Pit Girl Powerhouse workshop has been devised by artist Abigail Fraser for the 9to90 outreach program of GS Artists, Swansea, in collaboration with Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales & the Welsh Government Summer of Fun.
