Event:Was It Worth It? Commemorating the end of the 1984-85 Miners' Strike
Join us at Big Pit for a day of talks, music, film, exhibitions & poetry to remember the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike which changed the political, economic, and social history of Wales forever.
11am – 11.30am: Opening & talk by Ceri Thompson, Big Pit Curator
11.30am - 12.15pm: Breaking Point Film Showing - parental guidance recommended. English language, no subtitles
1pm - 1.30pm: Talk by Gareth Roden, former Big Pit employee - ‘From Mine to Museum - the early days of Big Pit in 1982/83’
1.30pm - 2.15pm: Wynford Jones and Geoff Cripps (of The Chartists) musical performance
2.15pm - 3pm: Round table Discussion with Ceri Thompson, Big Pit Curator, Siân James former MP for Swansea East and Dulais Valley Women’s Support Group and Ron Stoate former miner
3pm - 3.30pm: Visit to Vision Fountain ‘Behind the Picket Lines’ exhibition
3.30pm - 3.50pm Poetry with Patrick Jones
3.50pm - 4.00pm: Closing
Also an opportunity to take a look at the Streic!1984-85 Strike! display.
