Amleddau/Frequencies – premiere of a sound work and film, with a Q&A with Huw Stephens.

Join us for the premiere screening of Amleddau, a unique work by composer and artist John Meirion Rea, commissioned by BBC Radio Cymru, with a Q&A to follow with Huw Stephens. Special entry to the exhibition BBC100 following the screening.

Amleddau/Frequencies

By re-interpreting the BBC Radio Cymru archives, composer and artist John Meirion Rea has created a new work, in celebration of the Hundredth Anniversary of the first ever Cymraeg broadcast on radio, on 13 February 1923.

Amleddau blends original archive with field recordings and historic recorded music. In combining these with a specially composed musical response and contemporary interviews, what is represented is returned into our communal memory, in the ‘here and now’. Central to the piece are iconic recordings that are important to the history of the protest movement, and the fight for our own voice!
