Special Exhibition:Ffoto Cymru: In Plain Sight (Miss Jenkins? - after Richard Wilson) by Holly Davey

National Museum Cardiff

This new work by Holly Davey has been commissioned as part of the inaugural Ffoto Cymru: Wales International Festival of Photography, delivered by Ffotogallery.

In a society where women artists and photographers are still regularly overlooked, the festival points the spotlight towards female photographers and artists using photography. With the theme What You See is What You Get? the festival questions how we see, understand and use images and how they shape our identities and culture, from historical archives to AI and modern technologies.

Davey has responded to Richard Wilson’s Dolbadarn Castle (1760-65) to create a new photographic work. Beneath the painting, hidden for over three hundred years, a portrait of Miss Jenkins? remained unknown until a series of x-rays revealed its secret. Occupying Gallery 4, she embodies the celebration of all the unnoticed, unheard and unseen within collection spaces and beyond.

Delivered in partnership with Ffotogallery for Ffoto Cymru. Ffoto Cymru is a biennial photography festival delivered by Ffotogallery, with the generous support of various funders, partners and individuals.
