Event:Behind the Scenes: Snakes, toad stones and fairy loaves – magical tales and folklore of fossils
Before people understood that fossils are the remains of prehistoric animals and plants, they made up fantastic stories to explain where they came from. Some fossils were even believed to have magical powers, which could protect you or your home.
This visit will take you behind the scenes to one of the Museum’s fossil stores, where you will discover fossils believed to protect you from lightning strikes, snakes turned to stone and how fairy loaves could help keep your family fed.
