Saer, David Roy

Penodwyd David Roy Saer i staff Amgueddfa Werin Cymru yn Gynorthwydd Ymchwil ar ddydd Calan, 1963. Dyma ddechrau ar flynyddoedd diwyd o gasglu a chofnodi caneuon gwerin Cymraeg drwy recordio unigolion dros Gymru gyfan a chasglu eu hatgofion am yr hen benillion hyn. Dros y degawdau, daeth yn ysgolhaig ar hanes y gân werin, ac fel cydnabyddiaeth o'i wybodaeth eang ar y pwnc, fe'i etholwyd yn Llywydd Cymdeithas Alawon Gwerin Cymru yn 2000. Heddiw, ystyrir Roy Saer yn arbenigwr o fri ar gerddoriaeth werin yng Nghymru. Mae'n awdur ar lyfrau ac erthyglau niferus yn trafod cefndir a datblygiad y traddodiad offerynnol a lleisiol. David Roy Sears began collecting and recording Welsh Folk songs in the 1960s as a research assistant at the Welsh Folk Museum (as it was known then). He travelled across Wales exploring and collecting Welsh folk songs, recording people singing them as well as their memories of hearing the songs. He has dedicated his career to Welsh folk music, writing many books and articles on the subject. In 2019 the Welsh Folk Awards presented him Lifetime Achievement Award for his many decades of work and scholarship with the traditional songs of Wales.
