GHEZZI, Pietro Leone
Pietro Leone Ghezzi was trained by his father in their native city of Rome. He received many commissions for frescoes, history paintings and portraits as a result of his friendship with Cardinal Melchior de Polignac. He was also well known for his pen and ink caricature drawings. Ghezzi was also commissioned to create six large paintings depicting the life of Pope Clement XI for the papal palace at Castelgandolfo. After the pope’s death, Ghezzi was hired by the Falconieri family for whom he painted frescoes at their castle in Torrimpietra and Villa Falconieri at Frascati. In his later life, he devoted himself to studying ancient art.
