Water pump
Hall's patent turbine pump, formerly No. 4 feed pump, Newport power station.
The steam turbine pump is really in two sections: the engine part consists of a steam turbine, which revolves at high speed and this is coupled to a wheel fitted with a set of vanes. As the shaft revolved the vanes lifted and accelerated the water at sufficient speed to enter the boiler against the pressure of the steam. It was used to pump water into the boilers at Newport Power Station.
