Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
SILK embroidered with coloured silks in outline, split and stem stitches. A map of England and Wales, with the countries outlined and rivers and chief towns indicated. In the top right hand corners within a ribbon is the title: “MAP / of / ENGLAND AND / WALES; / Taken from / MODERN / SURVEYS”. Alongside is a list of eleven county towns. In the bottom left hand corner there is a north point and the “SCALES”: “British Miles 69½ to a Degree / Marine Leagues 20 to a Degree”. Lines of latitude and longitude are also shown. At the bottom is the inscription: “MARGARET HOLBROOK / HIGH ERCALL SCHOOL 1794”.
