A three-sided stone inscribed 'ABERAVON STREET(S)' ON ITS LEFT SIDE, 'TURNPIKE ROAD' on the right, and 'RY' (presumably the remains of 'BOUNDARY') on a chamfered corner between both main faces. This stone would have stood at a corner to identify the division of responsibility for road maintenance between the town of Aberafan (Aberavon) and a turnpike trust. The turnpike road would ahve been the A48 Pentyla Road continuing as High Street towards the river Afan. The stone would have been one of serveral standing at the corner of any adjoining street. it is likely to date from 1800-50.
