Garrard, R & S, & Co (trading 1843-1909)
The cover with crowned monogram of Queen Victoria on a deep blue enamel medallion bordered by diamonds, encircled by a chased gold laurel wreath. The spandrels set with diamond roses, thistles and shamrocks; the sides and base with chased foilage rims, urns and a rosette bordered by deep blue enamelled edged in white, presentation inscription on the inside of the cover.
This exquisite snuff box was presented by Queen Victoria to Henry Morton Stanley, a Denbigh-born reporter working for the New York Herald. It was given in recognition of his efforts to track down the explorer, Dr David Livingstone.
