Cup and saucer

Cup, hybrid-paste porcelain, standing on a rounded tapering foot-rim, cylindrical sides flaring out to the mouth, kidney-shaped and scrolled handle; the exterior sides of the cup covered with a pink ground overpainted with gilt lines to create a marbled effect, against this is reserved to the front of the cup an irregular octagonal panel delicately painted in polychrome enamel with a landscape scene showing a waterfall among craggy cliffs and distant mountains, the panel enclosed by a solid gilt border, gilt bands around the upper and lower body, a gilt edge to the lip-rim with an elaborate gilt dentil border to the interior lip-rim, delicate gilt foliate motifs and further gilt embellishments to the handle. Saucer, hybrid-paste porcelain, circular shape with rounded foot-rim and curving sides; the interior of the saucer covered with a pink ground overpainted with narrow gilt lines to create a marbled effect, against this is reserved to the centre of the well an irregular octagonal panel delicately painted in polychrome enamels with a landscape scene showing a river flowing among craggy wooded cliffs, the panel enclosed by a solid gilt border, a gilt band around the edge of the pink ground, an elaborate gilt dentil border to the rim. A small crack to one side of the saucer.
