Souvenir newspaper

Western Mail & Echo Ltd

Forty page Investiture souvenir newspaper, 1969. Published by the Western Mail and South Wales Echo. Featuring black and white and colour photographs of the Investiture ceromony in Caernarfon, and advertisments.

The day before the Investiture, two men from Abergele, William Alwyn Jones and George Francis Taylor, were killed whilst transporting a bomb that was meant to destroy the Royal train. Both were members of the FWA. Some nationalists later gave them the title 'The Matrys of Abergele' for what they saw was as their sacrifice for Wales. On the day of the Investiture a 10 year old boy lost part of his leg when he touched a bomb that was left in a yard close to the Royal route to the Castle. The FWA later claimed responsibility.
