Waistcoat

Men’s silk satin waistcoat made in 11 pieces, there are sections at the sides, shoulders and collar which could be later additions to widen the waistcoat. The front is silk and the back and lining are cotton. There are 4 ties sewn to the back to adjust the size. There is a stand-up collar and the opening is at the CF and fastened with 13 covered embroidered buttons. There are 2 rectangular shaped pockets on either side of the fastening which are also embroidered. The front is embroidered all over with floral sprigs and the bottom edge and CF fastening are embroidered with wild flowers. There is also a border design of alternate blue flowers and black dashes which is used along the bottom edge, fastening, top and sides of the pockets and around the collar. Embroidery stitches used are as follows; satin stitch, French knots, stem stitch, and individual motifs made from 3 straight stitches worked from the same point. All worked in multi coloured silk floss threads.
