Welsh Industries Fair 1947, photograph
Caption - Miss Nora Brady of Belfast showing nylon shoes to Lord Portal at the Welsh Industries Fair Horticultural Hall London 1st January 1947. The shoes in this photograph were made by Astoria Shoe Manufacturing Co. Ltd. of Tunnel Buildings and Penarth Road, both in Cardiff. Astoria were the first UK firm to make muiti- coloured nylon shoes. Viscount Portal (not Lord) formally opened the fair. At this time he was Chairman of the Great Western Railway.
