Programme

Commemorative paper napkin with four portraits in roundels and text printed in black and a floral border rubber-stamped in blue and purple. The portraits depict King Edward VII (right) with his wife Queen Alexandra (left). Portraits of their son, the future King George V, and his wife the future Queen Mary (of Teck) are on the lower left and right. The text outlines the programme for celebrations on the occasion of the coronation of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. It suggests an assembly at the Town Hall, the singing of the National anthem and a parade, with details to be confirmed. It also announces a charity performance of artists from the Cardiff Empire at the Workhouse, as well as a Promenade Concert in Sophia Gardens.

Edward VII ascended the throne upon Queen Victoria's death on 22 January 1901. His coronation had been scheduled for 26 June 1902. However, it had to be post-poned due to Edward falling ill with appendicitis. He was eventually crowned on 9 August 1902. The napkin still bears the earlier date of 26 June.
