Elisabeth Elias

This portrait is of Elisabeth Elias, the first female President of the Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales. It gives an opportunity to explore behind the scenes view of Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd - National Museum Cardiff, where the portrait is set. Elisabeth poses in the conservation studio with easels either side of her displaying two other portraits - one of Lady Countess Rhondda and the other of Agatha Christie by Oskar Kokoschka. In the centenary of the suffragette movement it seemed a fitting setting to portray Elisabeth.

Joseph Galvin is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshield foundation award for figurative art, and was awarded the Bulldog Portrait Bursary from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 2007. Joseph studied Art foundation at Carmarthen College of Technology and Art, before going on to graduate in Fine Art from the Kent Institute of Art & Design. His inspiration comes from drawing and painting from life, trying to capture the essence of character and spirit.
