Plaque
A slate plaque manufactured by Mr William John Roberts. Mr William John Roberts worked as a steward at Dinorwic Slate Quarries until its closure in August 1969. A dragon, and the inscription ‘Croeso 69 Caernarfon’, are carved on the slate. This carving denotes that the plaque was created to commemorate the Investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales on the 1st July 1969, at Caernarfon Castle. The Investiture was the climax of a year of celebrations, aiming to promote a new Wales to the world. The strap line ‘ Croeso (welcome)’69 ’ was used to advertise the year-long celebrations. Mr William John Roberts has adopted the strap line, and used it on his plaque.
