Rediffusion, film negative
Rediffusion display stand, at their inauguration in Pontypridd.
Rediffusion was set up in 1928 by its parent company British Electric Traction to relay audio signals ("radio programmes") via its overhead popwerlines. Television programmes were transmitted in much the same way in 1936 to areas in England with poor TV reception by normal means, namely the South Coast. After the Second World War, this method of TV transmission spread quickly reaching the otherwise inaccessable South Wales valleys by the early 1950's.
