S.S. BERNARD (painting)
Port view of the S.S. BERNARD at sea. Signed bottom left. Undated.
The S.S. BERNARD was built in 1884 for Turnbull Bros., Cardiff, by Thomas Turnbull of Whitby. Philip and Lewis Turnbull moved from Whitby to Cardiff in 1877, initially to fix outward cargoes of coal for their father's fleet of tramp steamers. In 1882 however, they became shipowners themselves and the S.S. BERNARD was the third vessel that they acquired. She was sold to Norwegian owners in March 1899. Cafodd yr S.S.
