Roman samian vessel
Samian vessel sherds. S80 is a rim sherd from a small bowl, probably form Dr38. It's fairly thin, bright orange ware with a worn orange glaze with the slightly metallic red sheen sometimes found on East Gaulish sherds of this type. S82 is a cup sherd, form Dr35. The ware is orange/pink with a good orange/red slip. It's well made, though rather thick, as is often the case with this form. Possibly Central Gaulish and early 2nd century.

Site Name: Bear House Field II, Caerleon
Notes: Field adjoins the south-west side of the legionary fortress : 'A' material is from Courtyard House (Civil Settlement). Context of S80: at (12) in road gravel (?) and occupation (?) next below humus. Context of S82: at (12) in mixed loam and occupation. Pre-stone (next on natural gravel)
