P.S. BRITANNIA, half hull ship model
In wooden glazed case.
A paddle steamer of 459 gross tons, built by McKnight & Co., Ayr, for P. & A. Campbell in 1896. For many years the flagship of the Campbell fleet, she underwent a number of changes in her outward appearance over the years, though this model depicts her as originally built. During the First World War, she served as a minesweeper on the East Coast, whilst she saw service as an anti-aircraft vessel on the Thames during the Second World War. Withdrawn from service in September 1956, this popular vessel was cut up at Newport in December that year.
P.S. BRITANNIA. Built in 1896 by S. McKnight & Co., Aire. She was renamed HMS Briton during World War I and HMS Skiddaw during World War 2. (1896-1956).
