Copper-plate

Evans, D.J. & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1862 - 1870)

Copper-plate, copper, a flat square, the upperside engraved with to the centre of the square the 'Willow' pattern, to one side of the scene three figures cross a bridge overlooked by a willow tree, beyond them is a boat on an expanse of water, to the other side is a pagoda surrounded by trees with a zigzag fence in the foreground, two birds fly over the scene, the scene enclosed within a circular border of alternating lattice-work and diaper panels, around this a further circular border of ornate scrolls, wheel shapes, Greek key shapes, and other geometric shapes on a scaled ground, to the top right of the pattern is engraved the inscription "D. J. EVANS & Co / SWANSEA" in a curve with "SWANSEA" engraved on a scrolling banner and the Prince of Wales Feathers in the centre, to the top left of the pattern is the inscription "STONEWARE" in a curve over a series of scrolling lines.
