Vase
Small vase made at Ewenny Pottery and decorated by Horace Elliot, 1895. Elliot was a London artist who visited the pottery annually between 1883 and 1913. Deep yellow glaze, with reserved leaf decoration.
Ewenny in the Vale of Glamorgan has a long tradition of making pottery. All the materials were at hand - red clay, glaze materials to finish the wares, stone to build the kilns and coal to fire the pots. There have been 15 potteries in the area at one time or another. Now there are only two. One family, the Jenkinses, has carried on the tradition for over eight generations.
