S.S. AMPLEFORTH (4576 gt). Built at Stockton-on-Tees in 1929 as GLOFIELD for Humphries & Co. of Cardiff and was bought by Cravos in 1932. Torpedoed and sunk by U-101 west of the Hebrides at 0154 on 18 August 1940. She was a straggler from Convoy OA-199. Nine crew members were lost. The master and 28 other survivors were rescued by the destroyer HMS WARWICK and taken to Liverpool.
