This silver cigarette case was given to Sergeant Harry Thomas Gilbert (of the Honourable Artillery Company Infantry Reserve Battalion) by an Austrian officer. The museum holds a letter from the donor with information about how the cigarette case was given to Sgt. Gilbert.
Gilbert was born in Bow, London and brought up in Barry, Cardiff. After the war he worked for the Cardiff Gas Light & Coke Company. He died in 1952.
