In response to letter sent 16/05/1877 (F03.16.10), this letter states that the work could be done between £40 and £60 cheaper by 'using a common smut machine, all the spindles of square iron and not turned all over, common brass bearings, and many bearings made of cast iron only, turbine wheel not fitted with arrangements for economising the water, common welsh leather be many other things too numerous to mention.
