Early Bronze Age copper halberd

Type Cotton (type 5) halberd. Dates to period 1 or 2 of the Early Bronze Age (2400-2000BC). Assymetric blade with slightly curved and narrow midrib, characteristic of this type. Damaged upper hafting plate, whose shape cannot be defined. Two lateral notches on the plate, which were once complete rivet holes, with a probable third at the apex forming an equilateral triangle. Traces of hammering of the edge of this third rivet hole are visible on one face at the tip of the plate. A disicnt line marks the edge of the hafting plate, interfacing at right angles with the top of the midrib and the blade edge. Parallel to the beveled blade edge are two grooves. The blade comes to a blunt oval point. On one upper blade is an incised inscription reading "Found at Dolfruynog July 15 1826" with an apparent signing off flourish beneath.
