Blue Star Line was founded by the brothers William and Edmund Vestey in1912. The brothers also owned the Dewhurst retail butchery chain and Blue Star vessels have always been associated with the carriage of refrigerated meat from South America and later from Australia and New Zealand. Newcastle Star was a motor vessel of 8,398 gross tons, built in West Germany in 1956; she is seen here alongside the Cold Stores in the Queen Alexandra Dock, c. 1970. Sold to Cypriot owners in 1975, she was broken up in Taiwan in 1980.
