Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Virtually complete and well shaped beehive topstone with convex sides and high width to height ratio. The stone has a pronounced hopper lip with three concentric circular tooled grooves cut around the upper outer sides of the quern. A single handle hole, circular in shape and piercing the grinding surface is found in the side of the quern some 22mm above the grinding surface. The hopper is concave in shape and circa 28mm in depth. Irregular wearing along the sides of the feedpipe suggest the original presence of an iron spindle mechanism, connecting the upper and lower stone. The grinding surface is a shallow concave curved shape, with stone peck tooling marks still visible. Stone pecked tool marks are also visible on the external surface.
