Born Désirée Lucienne Conradi to an English mother and Belgian father
The company was founded in 1941 as Heal's Wholesale and Export, becoming Heal Fabrics in 1959, as the emphasis focussed increasingly on textile production. Heals purchased designs and then outsourced their production, retailing them through its department store, Heal & Son and other outlets.
