'An armed merchantman, in 'Dazzle' scheme, with a destroyer escort leading a convoy of merchant ships. 'Dazzle' camouflage was invented by the artist Norman Wilkinson, the idea being that patches of strong colour would distort the form of the vessel making it less likely to be spotted by enemy submarines.
