Vertical locomotive boiler made by De Winton Works, Caernarfon, late 19th Century. The boiler was originally fitted to the De Winton Lococmotive "CHALLONER", which ran out of Penyrorsedd Slate Quarry, Dyffryn Nantle. The locomotive was later used at the Leighton Buzzard Railway, Bedfordshire.
The boiler is of rivetted construction and has two mounting flanges. It is believed to have been renovated by the Hope Brothers Foundry (Caernarfon), in the 1920s and then later by Dinorwig Dry Dock Company in the 1930s. The boiler was in use on the lococmotive until the mid 1980s, when it was replaced by a modern steam boiler.
