Iron Age copper alloy shield boss (electrotype)
Thin, sheet, copper alloy ornamental covering for a spindle shaped shield boss. The central expanded part is defined by two moulded transverse band and has a central raised circular boss with three radiating raised lines on each side. Narrow flanges with between 3 and 6 rivet holes joined with the pelta shaped decorative plate and the backing of the shield. One arm has broken off, the other tapers to a slender rounded end with a rivet hole for attachment.

Notes: Found with fragments of iron "swords" (now lost) under rubble collapsed from the outer face of the innermost rampart of the hillfort
