¾ Port stern view of S.S. CALTEX COLOMBO at Cardiff Docks.
T2-SE-A1 type tanker built 1944 as YELLOW TAVERN by Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Chester, Pennsylvania, for the US War Shipping Administration. She was fitted with a steam turbo-electric engine and transmission. 1946 – Sold to Overseas Tankship Corporation, Panama. 1951 – Renamed CALTEX COLOMBO (same owner). 1952 – Ownership transferred to Overseas Tankship (UK) Ltd., London. In December 1953, she sustained terminal damage to her main alternator while in port at Dublin. She was towed to Cardiff by the Dutch tug ZWARTE ZEE, arriving on December 19th.
