Blazer
Claude Davey is one of only three Welsh captains to lead Wales to victory over the All Blacks. Wales beat them 13-12 on 21 December 1935. He wore this blazer following the game.
Red woollen blazer with three brass button fastening front; 3 patch pockets: two at hip and one on left chest. Raised metal thread embroidery (gold coloured thread + blue silk) on chest pocket depicting the WRU emblem. 2 smaller brass buttons on each cuff (non-functional). Made from red twill wool fabric with a raised nap. Sleeves lined with white glazed cotton twill. Chest pocket lined with dark pink sateen. Main body of blazer and hip pockets are not lined apart from facing in self fabric at upper back and down centre front. The upper corners of the hip pockets are reinforced with round patches that are hand stitched to the inside of the blazer. A small reinforcing patch of twill fabric has been stitched to the inside of each upper shoulder. All machine stitched in either purple or red thread, apart from small overcast stitches attaching the sleeve lining at the shoulders (white thread) and securing the round patches that reinforce the corners of the upper corners of the hip pockets (purple thread). The seam at the centre back does not join two pieces of fabric together but is a stitched box-pleat. Seam turn-backs and the bottom edge of the upper back facing have raw edges cut with pinking shears. Black and white maker's label machine-stitched to inner neck. Two purple ribbons stitched together and used as hanging loop; attached to inner neck.
