Wholecloth quilt
Wholecloth quilt made by Caroline Fisher (1900-2002) of Evanstown, Gilfach Goch. According to family history, the quilt was made at a sewing circle/quilting group (Gilfach Quilters) during the 1930s-40s.
One side made from blue and the other side made from pink synthetic satin fabric. Stitching carried out in blue thread (two-ply, Z-twist). Design all hand stitched. Central rosette/coin motif against a background diaper pattern of small diamonds, corner fans and a floral border. Both sides each made from two lengths of fabric joined together by a central, vertical, machine-stitched seam. Some tacking stitches using white thread remain in the quilt.
