Roman samian bowl
Samian bowl sherds, form Dr31. S170-S172 are three sherds of a large bowl of thick pink ware, with slight flecks of mica, and a thin dull orange slip. S170 has 2 repair rivet slots. There is a small ring of coarse rouletting and the very abraded remains of a stamp - all that remains is 'IV' but it was probably a fairly long stamp. Eastern Gaulish. S173 is a bowl rim sherd from a different vessel of pale buff-pink micaceous ware with a brownish slip. Eastern Gaulish.

Notes: Field adjoins the south-west side of the legionary fortress : 'A' material is from Courtyard House (Civil Settlement). Context: at 58: in uppermost occupation next below masonry debris.
