Petticoat

unknown (Weaver)

Striped flannel petticoat, late 1800s. Worn later as part of Welsh costume by Beryl Jones of Dolgellau (born 1923).

Skirt gathered into dark blue cotton yoke with single button fastening (later black tapes stitched onto waistband). Woollen fabric of broad grey twill stripe with narrower dark grey stripe decorated with narrow stripes of green and red cotton; seams and hem etc. All machine sewn.
