Needlework samples
Needlework samples contained within a folded paper folio, 1887. Showing examples of stitches, patches, darning and other plain sewing techniques. Name of pupil/student (Adeleine Davies) handwritten on cover.
Needlework was an important part of a girl’s school curriculum throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s. These samples are typical of the needlework produced by young girls to demonstrate their ability to master dressmaking, mending and simple embroidery techniques.
