Am 9:13 y bore Gwener hwnnw, disgynnodd miloedd o dunelli o wastraff glo ar Ysgol Gynradd Pantglas a rhannau eraill o'r pentref gan ladd 116 o blant a 28 oedolyn.
Pin brooch bought by Marylyn Minett of Aberfan as a present for her mother, Iris. Marylyn was ten years old when she was killed in her class room in Pantglas Junior School Aberfan on 21 October 1966. Her seven-year-old brother, Carl, was also killed. Marylyn bought the pin brooch as a present for her mother, Iris, when she went on a school trip to Barry Island. After the disaster, Iris kept the brooch close to her at all times. Iris and Cliff Minett named their home 'Carlyn', in memory of Carl and Marylyn.
At 9:13 that Friday morning thousands of tonnes of black coal waste from an unstable tip slid down the mountain. It instantly engulfed Pantglas Junior School and parts of the village killing a total of 116 children and 28 adults.
