House and tree with Vesuvius in the background
This rustic house, perched in the shade of a mighty plane tree, is overshadowed by the distant presence of Vesuvius. The sketch probably derives from one of Jones's many excursions into the Neapolitan countryside. As with several other Neapolitan sketches, Jones has left the foreground unfinished.
