Tamping rod
Brass tamping rod (‘stampar’), for tamping gunpowder (‘powdwr du’) in blast holes. Consists of a cylindrical piece of brass, originally a solid brass rod, which has been turned between centres. A groove is formed in one end, to accommodate the fuse while tamping.
This tamping rod belonged to Trevor Williams who worked at Maenofferen Quarry, Blaenau Ffestiniog, between circa 1935 – 1960.
