Nasir Adam interviews Karen and Vera Battle at Butetown Community Centre. Vera Battle was born in Tiger Bay in 1934 on Nelson Street, and her daughter, Karen Battle, was born in 1959. The family lived on Nelson Street until its redevelopment, after which they were relocated to the high-rise flats. In this interview, Vera and Karen reflect on childhood in Butetown, strong community cohesion, the Rainbow Club, and growing up surrounded by music and singing. They also discuss the stigma associated with Butetown and the impact of redevelopment on community.
