S.S. GRELROSA, glass negative
3/4 starboard bow view of S.S. GRELROSA, about 1936.
A fine study of the 4,574 gross ton steamer Grelrosa, built at Newcastle in 1914, arriving at Cardiff with a cargo of pit wood, c. 1936. This vessel was operated by Walter Gould, whose cousin, James C. Gould, built up a massive fleet during the boom following the First World War, only to crash to failure in 1925. Walter Gould's shipping company survived until 1960. (Source: Shipping at Cardiff: Photographs from the Hansen Collection 1920-1975 by David Jenkins, 1993).
