Royal Navy "square rig" Leading Marine Eng.& Mech.
Blue/black Square Rig tunic worn by a Leading Marine engineer and Mechanic heavy linen with square collar with zip and tape fastening with gold lace insignia (two on right sleeve and one on left sleeve and rank chevron) on sleeves which have two buttons for fastening to wrist.
H.M.S. GLAMORGAN. County-class destroyer laid down September 1962 and launched 1964 by Vickers-Armstrong, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Commissioned by the Royal Navy in October 1966. She underwent a major arms refit in 1977-79 including construction of accomodation for her on-board Wessex helicopter. SHe had another refit in 1982 following damage sustained by the enemy in the Falklands War. 1986 – Decommissioned, and sold to the Chilean Navy and renamed ALMIRANTE LATORRE, where she served until 1998. She was sold for scrap in 2005 and sank at sea while under tow to be broken up.
